How can I engrave something myself using basic tools?
I work at a firm that sells slabs of granite, marble, etc. I obtained small 1/4 in thick samples of gorgeous marble. I’d like to engrave a message on the polished surface for someone for Christmas. I need it done by today and I can’t go somewhere to get it done. I want to do it myself. How can I do this? My dad has plenty of different tools here in the garage, but I don’t know what I can use to achieve decent engraving.
Any help?

Hi:
if all you want to do is put some letters on a piece of mable, make a stencil using the following
first – write what you want to say on your computer
second – choose what font & font size; you want for it ( it’s the letter style – for you: Stencil – font size 8 or whatever size will work )
third- get it to the size to fit on the marble slab ( you might have to print it on a sheet of 8 by 11. 5 regular printer paper a few time time to do this right ) Cut a piece of poster board 8 by 11. 5 and put it in the printer to do the fourth when you got the size right )
fourth – Print it out on 8 x 11. 5 posterboard sheet than cut each letter out with a sharp x-ato knife on a flat piece of a carboard box.
fifth – mount it on the slab making sure it’s center and where you want it to be tape it in place and be sure to cover the whole thing with tape except what you want blasted with sand
sixth – using a sand blaster or acid etching kit coat the whole thing or carefully blast it with sand ( for acid etching – read and follow their directions for using it and make sure you can use it for marble )
When done remove the stencil and rise it with water if your sand blasting it – if your acid etching: it – remove the stencil than rise the acid off with water or other however they say to do it.
and you done. Do whatever you want with it.
I hope this helps
